It is safe to say that Hardik Pandya has become one of the most hated cricketers in India. Ever since he replaced Rohit Sharma as Mumbai Indians captain, fans have made him the biggest villain of Indian cricket.
In his first match as captain, Hardik Pandya was booed by the crowd in Ahmedabad, angry with how he returned to MI. It was followed by them chanting the name of his predecessor, Rohit Sharma.
The next game made things worse, as MI conceded the highest total in IPL history against Sunrisers Hyderabad. He was attacked for his decisions as captain by fans and pundits as well. But the anger in fans grew, as he was mocked online and on the ground.
Recently a fan on Instagram shared a video of him and his friends watching the match between SRH and MI. Using their projector, they put up the match on a wall. After their loss, Pandya was shown on the screen for his post-match interview. The fans, already angry with Pandya, started throwing glasses, bottles, shoes and even a stool on the projection.
Hardik Pandya calls his team the toughest soldiers
In a video released by Mumbai Indians after their 31-run loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad, Sachin Tendulkar and Hardik Pandya spoke to the team. Tendulkar first commended the team for their incredible batting performance, where they scored 246 runs. Pandya later called his team the toughest soldiers who get the toughest tests.
Toughest soldiers get the toughest test. And we are the toughest team in the competition. Anyone who would have come even close to where we reached, as a batting group or as just overall Mumbai Indians, are us. Something I am really proud of is our bowlers. Even when the day was tough, I didn't see no one running away.Hardik Pandya to the MI squad
MI will now play Rajasthan Royals on 1st April at the Wankhede Stadium. It’ll be Pandya’s first game as MI captain at home and he will expect a hostile welcome from fans.
