“Zero intent and worst body language”- Fans go berserk as Afghanistan beat Pakistan for first time in history and the Men in Green lose 3 consecutive matches
Thanks to a poor bowling and fielding display from Pakistan, Afghanistan chased down 283 with ease and beat Pakistan in ODIs for the first time.

On 23rd October 2023, Afghanistan finally beat their fiercest rivals Pakistan for the first time in ODIs. The two teams have played 7 matches before, but Afghanistan lost all of them. But finally for the first time, Afghanistan have beaten the Men in Green in Chennai and also gained 2 valuable points in the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup.
Electing to bat first, Pakistan started off well despite Imam-ul-Haq’s early dismissal. Babar Azam scored his 2nd half century of the World Cup while Abdullah Shafique continued his good form, scoring 58. After Shafique was dismissed by Noor Ahmed, Mohammad Rizwan came into bat but only lasted 10 balls. Saud Shakeel also departed for 25 runs and Babar Azam scored 74 runs. A strong finish by Iftikhar Ahmed and Shadab Khan ensured Pakistan put up a score of 282. World Cup debutant Noor Ahmed, picked up 3 wickets as well, dismissing Shafique, Rizwan and Babar.
Afghanistan openers took full advantage of the powerplay, scoring 60 runs, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran put up a partnership of 130 runs before Gurbaz was dismissed by Shaheen Afridi. Ibrahim Zadran scored 87 before being caught by Rizwan after he edged a ball by Hasan Ali. Rahmat Shah and captain Hashmatulah Shahidi took their time to chase the target, with Shah scoring a 50. Hashmatullah Shahidi hit the winning runs after hitting Shaheen Afridi for a boundary over deep backward square.

Pakistan’s chances of qualification take a hit as they lose 3 games consecutively
Despite being given a huge target on a tough pitch like Chennai, the Afghanistan batters played some brilliant cricket to ensure they get their 2nd win in the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup. Things have now become tough for Pakistan, as they lost their 3rd match in a row. Afghanistan had caused an upset earlier in the tournament as well when they beat defending champions, England.

Afghanistan fans expressed their happiness on X, while Pakistan fans couldn’t believe they lost to Afghanistan. Fans kept making jokes on the expense of the Pakistan team as they finally lost to Afghanistan.
