The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday announced Ishan Kishan as KL Rahul’s replacement in India’s squad for the World Test Championship (WTC) Final against Australia in June. Rahul who was recently ruled out of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 with a hamstring injury and decided to undergo surgey on his right thigh will not be able to fly to England with Team India. Now, Kishan will travel to England in place of KL Rahul.
“KL Rahul suffered an injury to his right upper thigh while fielding during Match 43rd of TATA IPL 2023 between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore on 1st May. After consultations with specialists, it has been decided that Rahul will undergo surgery at the earliest followed by rehab at the National Cricket Academy for the same. He is ruled out of the upcoming ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia,” said BCCI in a statement released on Monday.
“The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Ishan Kishan as KL Rahul’s replacement,” it further stated.
The Indian cricket board also provided updates on Jaydev Unadkat and Umesh Yadav who suffered minor injuries while plying trade for their respective IPL franchises. BCCI said that both players are being monitored and a call on their participation in the WTC Final will be taken at a later stage.
Fans not happy with BCCI’s decision
Meanwhile, Indian cricket team fans were left disappointed at BCCI’s decision to name Ishan Kishan as KL Rahul’s replacement. Most of them felt that it was not justified to leave out Abhimanyu Easwaran who has been ruling the domestic circuit for some time now.
