In a press conference, Rahul Dravid confirmed that KL Rahul will miss the first two games of the 2023 Asia Cup due to a niggle. KL Rahul had injured his right thigh during the Indian Premier League and had undergone surgery, making him miss the World Test Championship and the Tour of West Indies. 

KL underwent rehabilitation in the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore and had started playing in simulation games along with Shreyas Iyer and Jasprit Bumrah.

On August 21 the Indian Cricket Team captain, Rohit Sharma and Chief Selector, Ajit Agarkar, had announced the Indian squad for the Asia Cup. KL Rahul ended up being selected in the team, although hey had mentioned that KL Rahul had picked up a niggle.

After Dravid confirmed that KL Rahul will miss the group stages of the Asia Cup, fans on X were questioning why he was selected if he was going to miss matches. Along with that, fans were debating over who should play at Rahul’s spot. Many said it should be Ishan Kishan, while the other half wanted Sanju Samson in place of KL Rahul. Fans were quick to joke around as well.

India will face Pakistan on the 2nd of September in Kandy, Sri Lanka for their first game in the Asia Cup. India will later host Australia and will then participate in the ICC ODI World Cup.
