Things have not been going well for Mumbai Indians in the 2024 IPL. On 1st April, they lost their third consecutive match in which they once again did not put up a fight. 

It began when they lost the toss and went in to bat first. A dangerous Trent Boult got three out of the top four for golden duck, while Nandre Burger took one as well. By the time they lost their 4th wicket, MI were 20/4.

Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma started counter-attacking, with Pandya even scoring 34. He ultimately got out to Yuzvendra Chahal. Varma began slowing down as Piyush Chawla partnered him. The MI tail somehow managed to put up runs as they reached 125. 

Pandya went for wickets from ball one, as youngster Kwena Maphaka picked up his first IPL wicket. Even Jasprit Bumrah was given three overs in the powerplay, but didn’t pick up any wickets. Akash Madhwal, who did not play the first two matches, took an impressive three wickets for 20 runs. 

Riyan Parag, who made a fifty the previous game, ensured he played the role of an anchor and successfully got Rajasthan Royals to their target. He even scored a fifty on a tough pitch that saw pacers enjoy movement and bounce. 

Fans keep mocking MI as they plummet to the bottom of the table 

When Mumbai Indians lost to Rajasthan Royals, many fans were happy. They kept on mocking the terrible form MI were in, joking that they could not win a match. Some criticized Hardik Pandya for the loss, claiming if he stayed at Gujarat Titans, MI would’ve been better. Many praised RR for their incredible form, winning three matches.

With this win, Rajasthan Royals go at the top of the table and two points clear of Kolkata Knight Riders. Meanwhile MI stay at the bottom of the table, with no points and NRR of -1.423.
