“Will Sri Lanka win against AFG without cheating”- Fans react as Sri Lanka beat Afghanistan to register their first win in the World Cup

Sri Lanka

Current Asia Cup champions Sri Lanka finally have a win to their name in the World Cup as they beat Afghanistan in an easy chase. The match was played at The Gabba, where Afghanistan’s captain Mohammed Nabi won the toss and decided the team would bat first.

The Afghani top order contributed valuable runs as Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Usman Ghani, and Ibrahim Zadran scored 28, 27, and 22. Each batsman registered a 100-plus strike rate. The talking point of this year’s World Cup has been Rashid khan who hasn’t been performing well with either the ball or the bat.

Rashid disappointed again as he faced 8 deliveries where he scored only 9 runs. Afghanistan further slumped badly as Wanindu Hasaranga took 3 wickets for 13 in 4 overs with an exceptional economy of 3.25. Who would have thought about his turnaround performance after getting hit for 50+ runs last time out vs New Zealand?

The target wasn’t big as Sri Lanka started chasing 145 in their 20. Pathum Nisanka departed early for his 10 in 10 as the Man of the match entered the crease with confidence. Dhananjaya de Silva scored an unbeatable 66 not out in 42 as Kusal Mendis accompanied him with his 25, Charith Asalanka with 19, and Bhanuka Rajapaksa with 18 which ended the match in the 18th over itself.

Afghanistan is the second team expected to book their flight back home as they lost three in three whereas Sri Lanka registered their first win. It’ll be hard for them to qualify but they can mount a serious challenge on either Australia, England, or New Zealand.
