KL Rahul has been selected in the 2023 Asia Cup squad despite suffering a niggle before the start of the tournament. Many fans wondered why he was selected in the squad despite being out for two games. He traveled to Sri Lanka and sat on the bench as Ishan Kishan batted at No.5 in his place.

After Ishan Kishan scored a crucial 82 runs against Pakistan, people thought now Rahul had no chance to play in the Asia Cup. After Shreyas Iyer was ruled out of the India-Pakistan match in the Super 4 stage due to back spasm, KL Rahul replaced him.
