Hardik Pandya has been targeted by fans after he became Mumbai Indians captain.

Before the start of the 2024 IPL, Mumbai Indians shocked the entire cricketing world as they announced they did an all-cash trade to bring Hardik Pandya back from Gujarat Titans. Just weeks later, it was announced that he had replaced Rohit Sharma to become the new captain of the franchise. 

This news did not sit well with MI fans, who believed the franchise disrespected Rohit Sharma, who won them 5 IPL titles. Things took a turn for the worse when a report claimed Hardik Pandya said he would join Mumbai Indians only if he was made captain. This rumor made the fans shift their anger to the all-rounder, who had previously led GT to consecutive finals in 2022 and 2023.

The Indian star is getting abused online, with many calling him selfish and greedy. The hate followed him to the stadium in his first game back, where fans booed him. They kept chanting Sharma’s name as well. 

Things got worse in the next match, where MI conceded a record breaking 277 to Sunrisers Hyderabad. The fans blamed Pandya for the embarrassing loss and called for his sacking. 

Fans defend Hardik Pandya after hate on internet 

After seeing the amount of hate the Indian all-rounder is getting, many fans decided to defend Pandya. They went on X and had to remind everyone what an asset the MI captain had been for India and his franchise. They further reminded all fans that they needed to direct their displeasure to the MI team management and owners, who were ready to make Pandya captain.

Pandya’s next match as captain comes against Rajasthan Royals at the Wankhede stadium. The match will be played on 1st April. So far, Pandya has lost two out of two matches he has captained.
