As per the allegations, on August 21, 2022, Sandeep Lamichhane raped Gushala-26, the name given to the victim. She lodged the complaint on September 6, 2022, and the cricketer was arrested at Tribhuvan International Airport on October 6, 2022.

On November 6, Lamichhane was sent to a central jail for a detention hearing, but he moved the high court and challenged the order. Last year, on January 12, he was released on bail of Rs 2 million. However, he was not allowed to travel abroad and was barred from leaving Kathmandu if he did not inform the police.
He moved the Supreme Court, challenging the travel restrictions. Lamichhane was then allowed to travel abroad to play games.
Because of the accusation, the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) then suspended him. After being accused of sexual coercion, he shared a post on Facebook, writing that he was wrongly accused and would fully cooperate to prove himself innocent. He called the allegations a “conspiracy”.
