Former Pakistan captain Misbah Ul-Haq has recently backed Pakistan skipper Babar Azam as the latter is constantly facing criticisms due to Pakistan’s lackluster show in Test cricket. Misbah believes that Babar is forced to become weak by the criticisms targeted toward him.

“It is visible, Babar is being forced to become weak, which is not good. The kind of press conferences and questions being asked from Babar, everyone is watching,” Misbah said to Geo News. Misbah led Pakistan to their first-ever World Test Championship in 2016.

He then added that if there is a decision, then everyone- the players, the selection committee, and the board- should sit down and make the decision comfortably. Only after reviewing the situation, they should decide on the changes that are needed. “If you put pressure on someone for any other reason, the whole team will be disturbed. It should not happen,” he added. Misbah also lamented about Pakistan getting fewer chances to play Test cricket.

Misbah Ul-Haq doesn’t approve of two captains in different formats

Pakistan’s team is not performing well in Test matches. In December last year, England whitewashed the host 3-0, which is also the first time that Pakistan got cleanly swept at home in the history of Test cricket. After that, the New Zealand series at home ended in a tame draw.

Misbah Ul-Haq believes Pakistan is a powerhouse in white-ball cricket. The Men in Green reached the finals of the Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup in 2022. But they faced defeat against Sri Lanka and England in the respective marquee events. The former head coach also disapproved of the recent “experimentation” made in the team for the series against England.

But Misbah thinks that having two captains for two different formats will lead to a rise in competition and will create a political environment. “Appointing separate captains shakes up everything as it gives birth to competition. It creates a political environment,” he concluded.
