The former cricketer also opined that although Sharma has handled things well after Virat Kohli stepped down from India’s captaincy, he (Sharma) can improve.

Ever since India went down against Australia in the World Test Championship (WTC) Final, there have been questions about Rohit Sharma’s captaincy. Many have raised questions about the Mumbaikar’s intent as a leader. Now, former Pakistan wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal has pointed out that Sharma is not authoritative like his predecessor Virat Kohli.
Akmal feels Rohit needs to show more authority on the field. The former cricketer also opined that although the current India captain has handled things well after Virat Kohli stepped down from India’s captaincy, he can improve.
“It’s a balanced team. The Indian team needs to have a good start. I want Rohit Sharma to do better with the captaincy. Show your presence on the ground like Virat Kohli used to do. He has got a chance. (Having said that), Rohit Sharma has done a decent job so far after what went down with the Kohli saga,” Akmal said on his YouTube channel.
Has Rohit Sharma not lived up to the Indian captain’s reputation?

The massive defeat in the WTC Final against Australia by 209 runs has raised questions about Rohit Sharma’s juju as captain. Fans felt that the India captain dropped his shoulders too early in the game and by the time India recollected themselves, it was too late.
While there were questions raised, a few people also came forward to defend Sharma. For example, former Australia skipper Michael Clarke said that one defeat cannot change the fact that Sharma is an able captain. Clarke also defended Team India saying that they are a really good team.
Now, as the new WTC cycle kicks off, it will be interesting to see for how long Rohit Sharma continues to lead India in Tests.
