From Kane Williamson to Rishabh Pant: List of all players and their replacements for IPL
More than 10 players have been ruled out of the entire season of the cash-rich league.

The 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is underway and fans have already watched some great matches. But the IPL franchises are dealing with injuries of their respective key players.
It was already known that Delhi Capitals’ Rishabh Pant and Mumbai Indians’ Jasprit Bumrah won’t be part of this season’s IPL because of their injuries. Another India star player Shreyas Iyer, who would have captained Kolkata Knight Riders, won’t be able to give his services due to his recurring back injury.
And recently, Kane Williamson also flew back to New Zealand while picking up a knee injury during fielding for the Gujarat Titans in the opening match. But these four weren’t the only players who won’t be able to give their services to their respective franchises. More than 10 players have been ruled out of the entire season of the cash-rich league.

Abishek Porel replaced Rishabh Pant
Pant suffered injuries due to his car accident last year, and because of this, he has been ruled out of the tournament. In his place, Bengal wicket-keeper batter Abishek Porel was named as a replacement.
Sandeep Warrier replaced Jasprit Bumrah
Since September last year, star Mumbai Indians pacer Jasprit Bumrah hasn’t played competitive cricket due to a stress fracture. He missed the T20 World Cup, and Border-Gavaskar Trophy, and miss the entire IPL as well. He is replaced by a seasoned right-arm fast bowler Sandeep Warrier.
Dasun Shanaka replaced Kane Williamson
Kane Williamson was signed by the Gujarat Titans for his base price of INR 2 crore. But in the first match itself, Williamson’s effort to save two runs cost him not just the entire IPL but his availability for the ODI World Cup this year also hangs in the air. He hurt his knees while attempting a catch. And now Sri Lankan skipper Dasun Shanaka has been named as Williamson’s replacement.
Gurnoor Singh Brar replaced Raj Angad Bawa
Gurnoor Singh Brar has been roped in by the Punjab Kings franchise as a replacement for Raj Angad Bawa. Brar was signed by the franchise for INR 20 lakh.
Michael Bracewell replaced Will Jacks
To a huge blow to the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Will Jacks sustained an injury before the start of the IPL. During England’s second ODI against Bangladesh, Jacks picked up a muscle injury and hasn’t recovered yet. The 24-year-old was signed by the franchise for INR 3.2 crore. New Zealand’s Michael Bracewell has come to play in place of Jacks.
Sisanda Magala replaced Kyle Jamieson
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) received a great blow when one of the most expensive buys New Zealand pacer Kyle Jamieson, who has been struggling with a recurring back injury, was ruled out of the IPL. In his place, CSK has recruited South Africa’s Sisanda Magala.
Jason Roy replaced Shreyas Iyer
Shreyas Iyer will undergo back surgery which has been plaguing him for the past few months. Whether he will play the second half of the tournament was uncertain at first but as it will take time to recover after the surgery, Iyer has been ruled out of IPL 2023. In his place, KKR handed the captaincy responsibility to Nitish Rana. But Jason Roy, who was picked by the franchise for INR 2.8 crore, will come as Iyer’s replacement.
Sandeep Sharma replaced Prasidh Krishna
Rajasthan Royals’ bowler Prasidh Krishna will miss the IPL because of his surgery for a lumbar stress fracture in his spine. Sandeep Sharma, who was picked for his base price of INR 50 lakh, will play in place of Krishna.
Akash Singh replaced Mukesh Choudhary
Mukesh Choudhary had a decent IPL debut last season, scalping 16 wickets for the CSK. But he is not participating in the 2023 IPL due to a stress fracture. 20-year-old Akash Singh joined CSK as a replacement for Choudhary.
Mattew Short replaced Jonny Bairstow
Jonny Bairstow failed to recover in time from an injury, so he’ll miss the entire season of IPL. Also as per reports, Baristow has been denied NOC by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to play in IPL. Australia’s Matthew Short has been named Bairstow’s replacement by the Punjab Kings (PBKS).
Rajat Patidar
Rajat Patidar, who slammed the fastest century in IPL by an Indian player last year, will miss out on playing this season due to an Achilles Heel injury. The RCB management is yet to decide on his replacement.
