As India beat Pakistan by 7 wickets on 14th October, Gautam Gambhir said the fact that India dominated Pakistan is not a good thing. Even when Pakistan were in a comfortable position at 155-2, they were bundled for only 191 runs. India chased down the total with only 117 balls left as well.
Talking to Star Sports about the match, the ex-india openers said, “Hammering along with domination. You use this word very rarely, that too when you are playing against Pakistan. If you see the results, Pakistan used to hammer India like this for a long time. However, for the last many years, India has dominated. This is bad for subcontinental cricket. We always used to say that if we have an India-Pakistan series, it will be competitive. An India-Pakistan series is not going to be competitive at all because there is a massive difference between the two sides.”
Although Pakistan has had 73 wins out of the 135 matches they’ve played against India, in the past few years they have struggled. In the last 5 years India has played Pakistan, they have won four of those matches while one match was washed out.
Gautam Gambhir claims Zaheer Khan should have been the Man of the Match in the 2011 ODI World Cup final
Gautam Gambhir is very well known to express his thoughts on the 2011 ODI World Cup final. Many times he has attacked the media for their coverage of the match. MS Dhoni had won the match for his match-winning 91*, but Gautam Gambhir believes the award should have been given to left arm pacer, Zaheer Khan.
While commentating during the World Cup fixture between New Zealand and Bangladesh, he said, “MS Dhoni got the award but I feel Zaheer Khan was the real Man of the Match. Sri Lanka would have scored around 350 runs had Zaheer not bowled that spell. Nobody recalls his bowling and we only talk about my innings and Dhoni’s six. Zaheer was the man of the final.”
