Jasprit Bumrah will play his first major tournament since his injury layoff from September 2022 due to a back stress fracture. Fans will see him play the much-awaited India’s match against Pakistan at the Pallekele Cricket Stadium in Kandy, Sri Lanka on Saturday (September 2). Former India player Gautam Gambhir feels there is no need for the Indian management to manage Bumrah’s workload because of the important tournaments.
The Indian cricket fraternity was involved in debating over Bumrah’s workload because the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) tried to rush the paceman for the ICC T20 World Cup in 2022. There are arguments that because of not given enough time to Bumrah to recover completely, he aggravated his injury and ended up undergoing surgery this year.
This India-Pakistan match won’t be Bumrah’s comeback match because he returned to the field after recuperating from injury in the recently concluded T20I series in Ireland, where he also led the side to a 2-0 series victory. Before that, he was at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.
“Workload management is finished now. You are at a stage now where instead of workload management, you will think about more game time and bowling as much as possible, because you have the Asia Cup, then three matches against Australia, and then straightaway the World Cup,” Gambhir said on Star Sports.
Karsan Ghavri revealed how Jasprit Bumrah prepared before the Asia Cup
Former India pacer Karsan Ghavri, in an exclusive interview with Timesnownews.com, revealed how Jasprit Bumrah prepared before the Asia Cup, which is played in the ODI format this year. According to Gharvi, at the NCA, Bumrah used to bowl 14 overs instead of 10 to make his body ready to bowl all the overs in a 50-over match. Gharvi also revealed that the 29-year-old has shortened his run-up.
India and Pakistan will meet at the 2023 ODI World Cup on October 8 in Chennai. The tournament will start on October 5 with a match between England and New Zealand.
