Former India batter Gautam Gambhir has often blasted those who think India won the 2011 ODI World Cup because of MS Dhoni‘s six off Nuwan Kulasekara during the India-Sri Lanka final in Mumbai. Anything he says about Dhoni invites fans’ criticism.

He has often accused the Indian fans of being individual-obsessed. The BJP MP even launched a scathing attack on a media publication for posting pictures of only Dhoni when the World Cup was won because of the contribution of the entire playing eleven.

However, his latest opinion on MS Dhoni left fans scratching their heads. Gambhir surprisingly praised Dhoni for demoting himself in the batting line-up instead of coming to bat at number three position. He said if Dhoni was not the captain, he would have scored a lot more runs in international matches.

If MS Dhoni wasn’t the captain, he would’ve batted at No.3 throughout his career and scored more runs. He sacrificed his runs for the team and the trophies,” Gambhir said on Star Sports.

Fans were left scratching their heads as Gautam Gambhir praised MS Dhoni

This praise from Gautam Gambhir shocked the fans as they did not expect him to say anything in favor of MS Dhoni. A couple of days ago, when India captain Rohit Sharma scored 10,000 runs in ODI cricket, Gambhir, on Star Sports, opined, “Rohit Sharma is Rohit Sharma today because of MS Dhoni.”

On Star Sports, he also said, ” MS Dhoni was a blessing for Indian cricket. Earlier wicketkeepers used to keep first then do the batting, but MS was a batter first then a keeper. In MS we got a wicketkeeper who could win you games from No.7 position.”
