The coach of the Lucknow Super Giants, Gautam Gambhir, will miss the 2024 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) because of his political obligations and schedule. Gambhir, a member of parliament for the constituency of East Delhi, is committed to the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, that will require his undivided attention.
Contrary to initial rumors, sources have confirmed that Gambhir will not leave Lucknow Super Giants but will instead take a break to focus on his political duties. In preparation for the Lok Sabha elections, there will be a substantial amount of political labor, so Gambhir intends to direct all of his efforts in that direction. A source close to the situation stated, “Yes, Gautam Gambhir is likely to take a vacation from the upcoming IPL due to his political obligations. He is not joining a new team or switching franchises.”
In addition, it should be noted that the entire 2024 IPL season might not be taking place on the Indian subcontinent due to the elections, analogous to the 2009 and 2014 instances in which the tournament had to be moved to South Africa and the United Arab Emirates, respectively. However, the final judgment on the IPL’s venue has not yet been made.
During his tenure as coach, Gautam Gambhir has guided LSG to the playoffs
In 2022, Gautam Gambhir was one of the first players to join the newly-formed LSG franchise. During the 2022 mega auctions, he was instrumental in constructing a formidable team with KL Rahul as the captain. The team has performed excellently since its debut, qualifying for the semifinals in 2022 and 2023, but has yet to overcome this challenge.
The organization recently made changes to their management team during the offseason following their fourth-place finish in 2023. They fired their head coach Andy Flower and hired Justin Langer, a former Australia batter as head coach. LSG has also appointed MSK Prasad, a former chief selector for India, as their chief strategic coach.
