Mitchell Johnson recently questioned David Warner’s selection in the Test team due to his poor form in the past three years. Along with that, he said that the opener did not deserve a “hero’s farewell” due to his involvement in the 2018 sandpaper gate scandal.

Many Australian players and icons came in Warner’s support, including Glenn Maxwell. While talking to SEN Sports regarding the article, Maxwell defended his teammate. He said the selectors knew what they were doing and backed him to score many runs.

I’m not going to throw my name into some headlines about this. But Davey’s been an absolute champion of Australian cricket for a long period of time and the selectors were pretty clear on what they thought of it. I’m looking forward to seeing Davey in that first Test and him making a lot of runs this summer.
Glenn Maxwell told SEN Sports

Warner will feature next in Australia’s Test series with Pakistan. It is a three match Test series with the matches being played in Perth, Melbourne and Sydney. The Test match in the Sydney Cricket Ground will also be Warner’s final Test match.

Glenn Maxwell to play the IPL until he won’t be able to walk

Glenn Maxwell joined the IPL in 2012, being bought by Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) but played only two matches and was then released. He was bought by Mumbai Indians, but he failed to make much of an impression that season as well. He really showed that he had the skill during the 2014 IPL, after performing well for Kings XI Punjab.

Since then he has played every IPL season, except 2019,  without fail, scoring 2719 runs in 120 innings. Currently playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Maxwell has admitted that he loves playing in the IPL and would play as long as he can to entertain the crowds.

The IPL will probably be the last tournament I ever play, as I will play the IPL until I can't walk anymore, I was talking about how good the IPL has been to me throughout my career.
Glenn Maxwell on the IPL

Maxwell hopes many of his Australia teammates play in the upcoming 2024 IPL for preparations of the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup. He said despite the drier conditions in India, the players could get used to the conditions.
