India vs World XI

India is set to celebrate its 75th Independence Day next month and the goverment has planned a huge celebration on that special day. The Narendra Modi-led Indian government has asked the Board of Control for Cricket in India to organize a special India versus World XI on the Independence Day. If it takes place, then Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium is likely to host the match.

Independence Day will reflect the huge growth of the country since gaining independence in 1947. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will host the flag at the Red Fort in Delhi and will give a big speech. ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ will be a special celebration which will highlight India’s history, people, and culture.

The sources said that the Ministry of Culture is in talks with the BCCI officials. BCCI has confirmed the government’s proposal but they are still exploring the availability of top-quality World XI. Around the time of the independence, big players will be playing alongside their national team, not forgetting Caribbean Premier League and England’s Hundred taking place during that time.

“We have received a proposal from the government to organise a cricket match between India XI and World XI on August 22. For a rest of the world squad, we would need at least 13-14 international players and their availability something that we need to check on,” a BCCI source told PTI.

Indian stars like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, and Rishabh Pant’s availability won’t be a matter of concern because they are not going to travel to Zimbabwe for the three-match ODI series. Also, the Asia Cup is set to start a week later. BCCI sources stated that all Indian players will likely to join the squad. Also, as of now, it’s still unclear whether the match will be an international T20 or a friendly.
