“After a long time” – Rohit Sharma scores his highest run in IPL 2022 against Gujarat; reaches a new milestone

Tim David
After a good start from the Mumbai Indians openers, Gujarat Titans’ bowlers started pulling them back from going big. With a brilliant innings from Tim David, MI gave a decent target of 178 to GT on Friday, May 6 at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.
Talking about the match, Gujarat Titans won the toss and chose to bowl first. MI’s Rohit Sharma who has been out of form this season, scored his personal highest with his 43 off 28 balls with 5 fours and 2 sixes. But a ball from Rashid Khan sent the MI skipper from scoring his maiden 50.

Rohit Sharma got down on his knee and tried to reverse-sweep but he missed and got hit on his front pad. The umpire said no and Hardik Pandya took it upstairs and the decision was declared as out.
After Kieron Pollard, Rohit is now the second MI players to hit 200 sixes for the franchise. Pollard has 257 sixes to his name. The West Indian played a poor knock today with his 4 runs in 14 balls.
The second opener, Ishan Kishan had also scored 45 runs in 29 balls by smashing 5 fours and a six before giving his wicket to Alzarri Joseph’s slower ball and gave an easy catch to Rashid Khan.
Mumbai Indians have been heavily depended on Suryakumar Yadav’s batting this season, but in this match, he was dismissed by Pradeep Sangwan after scoring only 13 runs in 11 balls with a six.
Tilak Verma looked towards a competitive score but a run-out from Hardik Pandya sent him back after 21 off 16 balls. Tim David took the middle-overs’ whole responsibilities on his shoulder, kept dragging MI’s innings with his unbeaten 44 off 21 runs, smacking 2 fours and 4 brilliant sixes.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians have been already knocked out from the playoffs as they could only get a single victory, which was against Rajasthan Royals, in their nine matches. They are languishing at the bottom of the points table. Gujarat Titans are the table toppers and have lost only two games in their nine matches so far. If they win this match, they will become the first team to qualify for IPL 2022 playoffs.
