Recently, Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar criticized Rohit Sharma in such a way that the Indian captain received backing from another legend Harbhajan Singh. Though many expected India to do much better under Rohit, India instead was knocked out of the ICC T20 World Cup in 2022 and recently lost the World Test Championship (WTC) Final as well, by a huge 209 runs. India could only retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy under him.

As it’s often the case, a team’s failure means the captain invites the most criticism. Right after India’s loss, angry netizens on Twitter blasted the Indian captain and even demanded his sacking. Indian fans are angry only due to the fact that the Men in Blue last won an ICC event in 2013 and ten years after, they have not been able to add another one to their trophy cabinet.

After Gavaskar launched a scathing attack on Rohit, Harbhajan came out in support of his former teammate. Both Rohit and Harbhajan shared the dressing room while playing for India as well as for the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL). “I find that people are going a bit overboard… the way Rohit has been criticized. Cricket is a team sport and one individual cannot take you from one place to another,” Harbhajan told PTI.

But it is unfair to criticize Rohit alone, that he is scoring runs, putting on weight, and not captaining well. I think he is a brilliant leader,” Harbhajan told PTI.

Ajinkya Rahane made a dream comeback to the Test side after his performance in the WTC Final. Though India lost the match after a lackluster performance from the batters, Rahane did show some intent and scored runs. Ahead of the two-match Test series against West Indies, starting July 12, Rahane was interviewed by a journalist about his comeback at the age of 35.

To this, Rahane said in a manner as if he was baffled by it and ended up saying: “What do you mean by at this age? I am still young. There’s a lot of cricket in me.” Rohit, hearing this reply, burst into laughter.
