Punjab Kings (PBKS) skipper Shikhar Dhawan recently played a brilliant knock of 86 runs from 56 balls against Rajasthan Royals (RR). Owing to his knock, he garnered praise from the cricket fraternity. Dhawan, (126,) is just a few runs behind Chennai Super Kings (CSK) Ruturaj Gaikwad (149) in terms of run-tally in this season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

However, he has been sidelined from the Indian side since December 2022. This left former India skipper Harbhajan Singh angry. He wanted Dhawan, who has contributed so much to the Indian team, to receive the same treatment other top players are receiving.

Shikhar is leading the PBKS side. He has been performing regularly. Till a few months back he was leading the Indian side in many tours but suddenly we saw that after the role of Shikhar was over, he was sidelined as if he is not needed anymore,” Harbhajan shared his views on his YouTube channel.

Harbhajan said he felt bad about seeing this because everyone deserves the same treatment. He then named a few big names from Team India who have been given plenty of chances. He urged the selectors to not ignore Dhawan who has contributed in big tournaments for the team.

For instance, let’s take Rohit Sharma or Virat Kohli, or KL Rahul who are the big names. You have them plenty of chances but on the other hand, there’s no place for Shikhar Dhawan in the team now,” Harbhajan added.

He further pointed out Dhawan’s fitness, saying: “If one talks about fitness, he is as fit as Virat Kohli. He is also scoring runs.”

Dhawan last played for India in an ODI against Bangladesh last December. In 167 ODIs, he has collected 6793 runs at an average of 44.

Meanwhile during the match between PBKS and RR, after being asked to bat first, PBKS put on a huge 197/4 courtesy of Dhawan’s 86 off 56 and Prabhsimran Singh’s 60 off 34. RR faltered at first but skipper Sanju Samson‘s 42 off 25 and stormy knocks from Shimron Hetmyer (36 off 18) and Dhruv Jurel (32 off 15) took the Pink jersey to 192/7.
