On 6th September former chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board, Najam Sethi, expressed his displeasure on X regarding the location of a 2023 Asia Cup match. Najam Sethi had called out the Asian Cricket Council and Board of Control for Cricket in India for not shifting the match between India and Pakistan away from Colombo.

Najam Sethi said that the ACC and BCCI had informed PCB that they would be shifting the match from Colombo to Hambantota due to rain. An hour later they confirmed that the game would stay in Colombo. Sethi said India was afraid of losing to Pakistan and made sure they played in the city despite the forecast of heavy rain.

In reply to this, Harbhajan Singh, on Sports Today, replied, “Don’t know what Najam Sethi is smoking nowadays. I don’t know how is he saying that they were the favourites or India does not want to play Pakistan.”  Harbhajan further added that this claim is baseless. He further adds that India could beat Pakistan and India is not scared of Pakistan.

The Asian Cricket Council confirmed that the Super 4 clash of India and Pakistan will get a reserve day. The match is scheduled for 10th September, but the weather forecast says that the match could be washed out, like the group stages match between the two.

To ensure that the entire match is played out, the ACC has added a reserve day to the fixture. If the match on 10th September is interrupted due to rain, the match will be continued on the 11th of September.

Many fans are unhappy with only this fixture getting a reserve day, while the other matches being held in Colombo are going to be affected by rain. Fans said this was unfair to Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
