Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh has expressed concern over Yuzvendra Chahal‘s exclusion from the national lineup for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023. Chahal, a talented leg-spinner, was not selected, and Harbhajan believes this may leave a hole in the team’s spin department.
Harbhajan Singh highlighted Chahal’s outstanding skills as a white-ball spinner, stating that despite a few poor performances, he still remains India’s first choice in this format. Harbhajan expressed optimism that Chahal would be reconsidered for the squad, especially with the Asia Cup and the ODI World Cup scheduled for India.
Chahal was criticized for his recent performances, particularly in the T20I series against the West Indies. However, Harbhajan argued that Chahal’s inclusion would have boosted his confidence and demanded selectors to maintain an open door for his return.
”If you talk about genuine spinner, I don’t think there’s any spinner in India better than Chahal in white-ball formats. Yes, his last few games weren’t good, but that doesn’t make him a bad bowler,” Harbhajan said on his YouTube channel.
Rohit Sharma, captain of India, acknowledged the odds of Chahal’s return for the ODI World Cup, stating, “No doors are closed to anyone.” This indicates that Chahal’s future with the national team still remains uncertain, but there may be opportunities for his return given his demonstrated ability to win matches.
Yuzvendra Chahal shares his reaction after missing out from Asia Cup squad
Yuzvendra Chahal provided an ambiguous response to his omission from the Asia Cup squad, which was announced by a panel headed by Ajit Agarkar on Monday.
But moments after the major announcement, Chahal shared a positive reaction on Twitter using emoticons, implying that the sun will rise again.
However, Dhanashree, Chahal’s wife, expressed her disappointment that Chahal was not selected for the international competition by posting a cryptic story on Instagram.
