Recently, the BCCI punished Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan for not participating in the Ranji Trophy by excluding them from the BCCI central contracts. They were unhappy with how the two didn’t give importance to domestic cricket, but were ready to prepare for the upcoming IPL.
Seeing the way the two have been treated, Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya has decided that he will be playing domestic competitions. According to a report by the Indian Express, Pandya was only given a BCCI central contract if he played in the domestic circuit.
Pandya accepted the offer, stating that he would make himself available for all white-ball tournaments, like the Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He used to play for Baroda and hasn’t played for the team for years.
Pandya is also exempted from playing the Ranji Trophy. Thanks to his injury record, along with the fact that he’s no longer in contention for the Test team, he has given priority to white-ball cricket.
Fans praise Jay Shah for making Hardik Pandya play domestics
When the news of Hardik Pandya agreeing to play in the domestic circuit came out, fans expressed their happiness. Many credited BCCI Secretary, Jay Shah, for making players focus on domestic cricket. Many had earlier questioned why Pandya was not treated like Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan, but now understood why. Some questioned if he would even play for Baroda.

Hardik Pandya had missed over four months of cricket due to an ankle injury he suffered in the 2023 ODI World Cup. He currently is playing in the DY Patil T20 Cup, alongside other players who are preparing for the 2024 IPL.
