For the past few days, there has been a lot of talk surrounding the Mumbai Indians (MI) captaincy. MI handed the captaincy responsibilities to Hardik Pandya from Rohit Sharma, under whom the team lifted five trophies in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Now reports have come out that Pandya may not be able to play in the IPL next year due to an injury. The all-rounder suffered an ankle ligament tear while fielding during a match against Bangladesh in the 2023 ODI World Cup.

He has not played further in the World Cup and has still not recovered. If he doesn’t play in the IPL, then Rohit, in all possibilities, will captain the side again.

Netizens mock Mumbai Indians as Hardik Pandya may miss IPL 2024 due to injury

Some reports claimed Hardik Pandya laid out captaincy conditions in front of the franchise in order to make the all-cash deal with Gujarat Titans (GT) possible. Pandya led GT to victory in their first appearance in IPL 2022, even guiding them to another final in the 16th edition of the league. As the reports of Pandya’s possible absence came out, netizens started mocking MI for changing the captaincy.

Rohit will be back on the field when India plays the Boxing Day Test match against South Africa on December 26. This will be the first time since leading India to the 2023 ODI World Cup final against Australia on November 19.

India and South Africa have played three ODIs and three T20Is before the two-match Test series. The T20I series ended in a tie, while India registered a series victory in ODIs by 2-1.
