With the help of Hardik Pandya’s all-round performance, India thrased England by 50 runs at the Ageas Bowl in Southapmton on July 7 to lead the three-match T20I series by 1-0.
Chasing the target of 199, England’s top-order got shattered by Hardik Pandya and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Hardik Pandya first dismissed Jason Roy, Bhuvneshwar sent English skipper Jos Buttler for a golden duck before Pandya sent Dawid Malan also. Pandya then picked up the dangerous Liam Livingstone who also went back for a duck to give India relief from his destructive batting. Sam Curran was his fourth wicket.
Hardik Pandya also slammed his maiden ton in T20 by scoring 51 runs pff 33 balls. This made him the second batsman after the legendary Yuvraj Singh to score a half-century and at the same time pick three wickets. But a half-century and a four-wicket haul made him the first player in India to do so.
Meanwhile, in India’s innings, Deepak Hooda and Suryakumar Yadav played a lot of attacking shots that helped India revive the innings after the openers Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan walked back soon after getting dismissed. Hooda and Yadav had scored 33 and 39 runs respectively. Dinesh Karthik and Axar Patel tried to finish the innings but soon got dismissed and India scored 198/8 in the end.
From England’s side, Moeen Ali scored 36 runs off 20 balls while Chris Jordan tried to rescue the team with his 26 runs off 17 balls but it didn’t help England. Harry Brook played a knock of 28 runs off 23 balls.
Arshdeep Singh, Harshal Patel and Yuzvendra Chahal picked up two wickets each while Bhuvneshwar Kumar scalped one wicket.
