India Women captain Harmanpreet Kaur invited massive controversy as her antics during and after the third ODI against Bangladesh Women in Dhaka last month left the cricket world divided. She now broke silence over her outburst, saying that she has no regret.
During the third ODI, Harmanpreet was controversially dismissed by the umpire after which she lost her mind and smashed the stumps with her bat before heading to the dugout. Her antics did not stop there as she called the umpire’s decision “pathetic” at the post-match presentation.
The 34-year-old even went a step ahead when she suggested the Bangladeshi players ask the umpire to come for the trophy presentation photo. Shedding light on the incident, the Indian captain said that as a player, she wanted to see fair decisions during the match which is why she doesn’t regret her controversial behavior against the match officials.
“I will not say that I regret anything because at the end of the day as a player you want to see that fair things are happening. As a player, you always have the right to express yourself and what you’re feeling,” Harmanpreet was quoted as saying by The Cricket Paper during the Women’s Hundred. She then added that she doesn’t think her behavior harmed any player or person.

After the incident, there were reports that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Roger Binny, secretary Jay Shah, and National Cricket Academy (NCA) director VVS Laxman would talk to her regarding the matter. Harmanpreet is currently in England playing for the Trent Rockets at The Hundred. She will join Women in Blue for the Asian Games, starting September 23.
