Harry Brook is one of the biggest rising stars in Test cricket. In 12 Tests he has scored 1181 runs with an incredible average of 62.1 and a strike rate of 91.8. When he was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad for ₹13.25 crore, many expected him to become one of the biggest stars of the tournament, but he ended up failing.
In the 2023 IPL, he played 11 out of the 14 games whilst scoring only 190 runs. Out of those 190 runs, 100 came in an innings against Kolkata Knight Riders. After he scored the ton, he said he was happy he could shut up the Indian trollers as he was unable to fire in the previous 3 games.
Sadly that comment bit him back in his next 7 appearances he managed to score a grand total of 61 runs with 3 ducks as well. He was released by SRH as well due to his poor campaign. Looking back at the interview, he said he regrets it.
I was an idiot and I said that stupid thing in an interview which I regret a little bit. In India, you end up sitting in your hotel room, not much to do so I find myself just scrolling Instagram or Twitter or whatever and come across stuff you just don't want to see.Harry Brook said ahead of second ODI against West Indies (quoted by BBC)
He confirms that he doesn’t run his social media accounts now and himself doesn’t handle it. Just after the IPL, he had an incredible Ashes where he scored 363 runs with an average of 40.33. He scored 4 half-centuries in that series as well, with his highest score being 85. Brook has also registered for the 2024 IPL Auctions.
Harry Brook’s incredible Test career
Often stereotyped as a white-ball specialist, with him already making a name for his power hitting ability. Before being selected for the English Test team in September 2022, he scored almost 1000 runs in 2022. In his debut against South Africa, he did not make much of an impact but proved himself during England’s tour of Pakistan.
In 5 innings, he scored 468 runs with an average of 93.6 with a strike rate of 93.41. His next series against New Zealand he showed the same aggression, with one century and 2 half centuries in 4 innings, In the 2023 Ashes he became the batter to dismiss, as his ability to accumulate runs was troublesome for the WTC champions.
