Kolkata Knight Riders hosted Sunrisers Hyderabad on 23rd March in their first match of the season. Being sent to bat first, the hosts scored a massive 208 in their 20 overs, thanks to some elite hitting by Andre Russell

Needing to chase such a huge target, the SRH openers attacked from ball one. Mayank Agarwal started off well, scoring 30 off 18 by the 5th over. Facing Harshit Rana in the 6th over, the first two balls resulted in a double and dot.

In the third ball, Rana bowled a short ball which Agarwal tried to pull over square leg. Unfortunately, he was caught at the boundary line by Rinku Singh. As the opener walked back, he blew a kiss to him and stared him down. Agarwal did not like his actions, staring back as he walked back.

Despite needing to defend 81 in five overs, Heinrich Klassen got the equation to 13 off the last ball. An economical over by Mitchell Starc and a late attack by Abdul Samad saw SRH needing 60 in the final over.

Klassen then decided to let loose, hitting Varun Chakravarthy for four sixes. He then smacked four sixes off Starc’s final over, with Shahbaz Ahmed also hitting one in the final ball. The equation finally came to 13 off the last over. Having the options of either Rana or Andre Russell, captain Shreyas Iyer decided to trust the Indian youngster.

Bowling to the dangerous Klassen, he conceded a six on the very first ball as the batter pulled it. The next ball was bowled a bit fuller, but an inside edge resulted in a single. In the 3rd ball of the over, he got the wicket of Shahbaz, who found Iyer at long-on.

Needing to defend 7 off three, Marco Jansen took a single to bring back Klassen on strike. Going to smack the ball straight down the ground, Klassen got an outside edge. Suyash Sharma, who was at short third-man, had to turn around, run and dive to take a spectacular catch to dismiss the in-form batter. Bowling a dot in the final delivery, Rana won the game for his team
