The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is considering yet another proposal for a schedule change with less than a month until the awaited ICC ODI World Cup 2023. The Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) is concerned about the possibility of hosting two consecutive matches at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
The latest schedule has New Zealand’s match against the Netherlands listed for October 9, which is followed by Pakistan’s match against Sri Lanka on October 10. On October 6, Hyderabad is also scheduled to host a match between Pakistan and the Netherlands. This scheduling conundrum stems from the vibrant celebrations that encircle India in October and November. The large audiences attracted by these events raise concerns about the security challenges for consecutive cricket matches.
This is not the first time that the 2023 World Cup schedule has been altered; it has already been modified nine times previously. Notably, the India-Pakistan match was originally scheduled for October 15, overlapping with Gujarat’s Navratri festival, causing the date to be moved to October 14.
The HCA‘s request is suggestive of the ongoing juggling act required for accommodating cricketing zeal and passion within India’s diverse cultural blend. As fans anxiously anticipate the tournament, the BCCI is tasked with ensuring not only thrilling cricket, but also the security and enjoyment of the fans during this holiday season.
India vs Pakistan match rescheduled
On October 5, 2023, the ICC One Day International World Cup will officially begin. Since the competition began a month and a half ago, its schedule has been drastically altered, with nine matches having to be rescheduled till date.
The highly anticipated match between India and Pakistan is one of the competitions that have been modified for the broadcast. An original date of October 15 was chosen for the showdown between the bitter rivals, but after PCB’s appeals, the date was moved up to October 14.
