The International Cricket Council (ICC) slapped India women’s skipper Harmanpreet Kaur with a two-match ban for her controversial on-field actions during an ODI against Bangladesh. Kaur smashed the stumps in anger after being adjudged out by the on-field umpire in the third ODI against Bangladesh and also openly called out the decisions made during the post-match presentation.

Kaur allegedly also hurled a few distasteful words against the opposition players and hence the global governing body has taken this action against the India captain. ICC announced that Kaur will miss the next two matches India plays.

“In Kaur’s instance, the accumulation of four demerit points converted to two suspension points, leading to her suspension from either one Test match or two ODIs or two T20Is, whichever comes first for the team,” ICC said in a statement on Tuesday.

This means that the Indian skipper might miss the first two matches at the Asian Games, scheduled to be played in September-October this year. As India don’t have any other international games scheduled before the Asian Games, the two-match suspension will be applicable when Kaur takes the field during the Asian Games.

ICC imposing a two-match ban has put Harmanpreet Kaur’s participation in India’s first two games at the Asian Games in jeopardy. However, there is a way the Indian captain can skip this and represent India from the very first game at the multi-sport tournament.

If the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) manages to arrange a bilateral series with at least two games before the Asian Games and Kaur is named in the squad, the Indian skipper will serve the ban. So, when she takes the field during the Asian Games, the ban will not be applicable as she would have already served it.
