Here’s how James Anderson reacted when Stuart Broad revealed his decision to announce his retirement after Ashes series

Veteran English pacer Stuart Broad made a shocking announcement when he declared that the ongoing fifth Ashes Test will be the last match of his 17-year-long illustrious career. While announcing his decision, Broad said the Ashes has always been the pinnacle for him that’s why he wanted to bat and bowl for the last time in Ashes.
On Day 4 of the fifth Test, he received the guard of honor from the Australian team when he came out to bat, but he asked his bowling partner James Anderson to join him to take the final walk together. Broad and Anderson formed a dangerous bowling pair for England in Test cricket.
Broad and Anderson have more than 600 wickets each in Test cricket and share around 1300 wickets between them for the English team. The 37-year-old revealed how Anderson reacted when he told him about the decision.
“He (Anderson) just said ‘Are you joking?’ We then had a hug. I went to see [Ben] Stokes and Baz [Brendon McCullum] last night and said thanks for all you have done for me,” Broad said on BBC’s Test Match Special. Broad added it when he spoke to Anderson, he got emotional but controlled himself to focus on the match and reminisce later once the job is done.

When Stuart Broad and James Anderson came to bat for the last time, Anderson stayed behind the boundary line to let Broad feel the moment while receiving the guard of honor. Former England captain Nasser Hussain in the commentary box got emotional watching the scene.
“I’m tearing up here. He wanted him to go through with him, put his arm around him, as he did all through his career,” Hussain said on said.
With the bat, Broad’s final runs came in the form of a six against Mitchell Starc. England were later bundled out for 395 runs. Australia have scored 75/0 so far, needing 309 runs so far.
