“He’s gonna be an all-format player for India soon” – Rohit Sharma praises Tilak Varma after youngster’s performance against CSK

Tilak Varma

In one of their most disappointing seasons in IPL, Tilak Varma has been Mumbai Indians’ biggest positive. At only 19, Varma showed amazing grit and confidence to see through Mumbai Indians’ 3rd victory of the season last night. On a pitch where most batsmen failed to perform, Tilak Varma anchored the Mumbai Indians innings scoring a sublime 34, enough to secure the win for Mumbai.

In only his debut season, 19-year-old Tilak Varma is Mumbai Indians’ highest run-scorer. The youngster is 7th in the race for Orange cap with 368 runs in with an average of a little over 40. Hailing from Hyderabad, the youngster was signed by Mumbai Indians for 1.7cr, a rather bargain compared to what teams have splashed on other players.

Rohit Sharma sees Tilak Varma as a future batsman for India

Speaking at the post-match conference, Rohit Sharma was full of praises for Tilak Varma. The Mumbai Indians and now India captain said, “He’s been brilliant playing for the first year. Having such a calm head is never easy and in my opinion, I feel he’s going to be an all-format player for India pretty soon. He’s got the technique, he’s got the temperament, which is the most important thing when you play at the highest level”.

He further added “So, I think a lot of things are looking bright for him and there is hunger. When you speak to him, there’s hunger to do well and finish games and have some success as well. I think he’s on the right path; he just needs to keep growing and see how he can improve and get better as a player.”

Even though Mumbai Indians are eliminated from the playoffs of this season’s IPL, Tilak Varma is one player who should be proud of his performance. The youngster has been heavily involved in all of Mumbai’s victories. Moreover, he’s one of the only batsmen who shone for the team while others have been struggling.
