IPL 2022: How can Mumbai Indians still make it to the playoffs?
Rohit Sharma
Mumbai Indians (MI), the 5-time champions, are having the worst season, have lost their first seven matches in this edition of IPL. After their 3-wicket defeat to Chennai Super Kings, they became the first team ever to lose first 7 in a row.
Every team will play a total of 14 matches in the league round. But after 7 losses, Mumbai Indians have already lost half of them. So now, they will have to win the next seven matches. In 2014, after losing 5 matches, they still qualified for the knockouts but in this time, things have become different.
16 points will easily make a place in the playoffs. Even if they win the next 7 matches, they would need that with a big margin to improve their Net Run Rate (NRR). At present Mumbai Indians have NRR of -0.892. But if MI’s NRR is good, then only the 14 points will matter.

MS Dhoni’s innings cause Mumbai Indians their 7th defeat
In the thriller between Mumbai Indians and CSK, the latter defeated the former by 3 wickets as MS Dhoni finished CSK’s innings in his ‘Vintage Dhoni’ style on Thursday, April 21 at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai.
“In the end it was a great fight from us, we were in the game after not batting well, the bowlers kept us in, but in the end, you know how towering MSD can be and he took them home. It’s hard to put a finger on anything, but we’re not starting well in the match,” Rohit Sharma had said after the disappointing match in the post-match presentation.
“If you lose quick wickets, you’ll always be playing the catching game. But I thought we did well to keep them under pressure, we did so until the last over, but Pretorius and Dhoni took them home. We always back ourselves to do well, but as I said, we lost too many early wickets, we did make a good comeback with both bat and ball, but it wasn’t enough in the end,” he added.
