The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) failed to defend a huge 200-run total and lost the match by six wickets against Mumbai Indians (MI) on Tuesday (May 9) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The result of which saw them drop to seventh position on the points table, after winning five and losing six from 11 matches they have played so far. They faced defeats in their last two matches despite their stunning batting efforts but unfortunately couldn’t pull off the victory.

Now the Faf du Plessis-led side has three matches to play in the league stage. Their next game is against Rajasthan Royals on May 14 then against Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 18, and in their last clash, they will lock horns with defending champions Gujarat Titans on May 21. Only against the Hardik Pandya-led side, RCB will play at home; the other two will be away matches.

Now RCB found themselves in a tricky situation after that demoralizing defeat from Mumbai Indians. They have to win their last three matches in order to clinch 16 points to stay in contention for the playoffs.

RCB even cannot make it to the top-2 after that loss to MI. Their net run rate of – 0.345 is certainly not going to help them to replace the current top two teams, Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings.

RCB losing one of their next three matches will nearly end their playoffs hope. And even if they win their three matches, their qualifications will be based on the net run rate.
