“I was willing to accept…,” Virat Kohli reveals how he regained his love for cricket in exclusive interview
Kohli said that when he scored the century he could do nothing but laugh at himself.
It’s been some time since Virat Kohli hit his long-awaited 71st century. The star batter scored 61-ball 122* against Afghanistan at the Asia Cup 2022 to bring up his 71st international ton. Kohli has hit four centuries since then across three formats. But people still have not forgotten those one-and-a-half years when a three-figure score seemed a distant dream for Kohli.
It seemed the end of the road for the former India captain as his form continued to deteriorate. Such was the situation that Kohli stopped scoring half-centuries as well. However, the 34-year-old went on a break and came back like he never left. Kohli started hitting the right chords and runs were flowing for him now.
While many observed that Kohli has made some technical changes, the batter claimed that he did not even touch the bat for the entire month. Then how did Kohli redeem himself? While the batter has answered the question in short interviews, Kohli spoke about it in length during an exclusive chat with Robin Uthappa in JioCinema.
Virat revealed that it took no time for him to realize that there was no issue with his technique but it was all fault of his cloudy and cluttered brain. The 34-year-old then said that he told himself that it would be the last month of competitive cricket for him and the hunger was back again.
“The most important factor in that transitional period, before the Asia Cup last year was the fact that I was willing to let go of everything. I was willing to accept that when I go back and play, it might be the last month of me playing competitive cricket and I am absolutely okay with it. I am happy with where got has put me and I wasn’t in a desperate space. Everything became enjoyable and I found back the excitement all over again,” said Kohli.

Why Virat Kohli had a broad smile after scoring his 71st hundred?
The batter further talked about his long-awaited 71st century and how he felt after reaching the milestone. Kohli said that when he scored the century he could do nothing but laugh at himself.
“When I came back in the Asia Cup, I was excited, I was happy, I started batting well but I didn’t think about the hundred at all. Before the Afghanistan game, Rahul bhai asked me ‘Are you keen to open’ and I said ‘100 per cent’. I opened and started hitting the ball well. At the moment the hundred happened, I actually laughed. Because for a year-and-a-half, I was so desperately after this moment and when it happened, I was like, ‘Man, I was stuck in a loop for so long for this!’” said Kohli.
