Pakistan’s Board of Director Mickey Arthur took a dig at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) after the Men in Green’s demoralizing defeat to India at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday (October 14). He pointed out how the lack of crowd support for the team plays a role in deciding the result of the match. Pakistani fans are not granted visas to attend the quadrennial tournament in India.

Arthur, in the post-match press conference, told a bunch of journalists that the match between India and Pakistan looked more like a bilateral series or a BCCI event. As his comments raised many eyebrows, reports emerged that the International Cricket Council (ICC) will investigate the matter.

Things that perhaps we’ll take away and try to work on, try to do better… so this event’s only [at] the start. Let’s see how the whole thing plays out and we’ll go away and we’ll review what could change, what we can do better, how we can improve World Cups and the general offering around cricket,” ESPNcricinfo quoted ICC chairman Greg Barclay as saying.

Barclay was asked the question by a bunch of journalists on the sidelines of the International Olympics Committee Session in Mumbai. But he has yet to give a concrete statement on Arthur’s comment.

Not just the former Indian cricketers, even Pakistani ex-players like Wasim Akram and Danish Kaneria criticized Mickey Arthur’s remark after witnessing a terribly one-sided match between India and Pakistan. When ex-India cricketer S. Sreesanth was asked about Arthur’s remark, he recommended him the movie 83, based on the life of Kapil Dev.

Sreesanth said during India’s matches, it never feels as if one is watching an ICC event. He wanted Arthur to understand the journey of BCCI by watching the 83 movies with subtitles. “Then he can understand where BCCI was and where it is now. The journey is very important,” Sreesanth told Sportskeeda.
