The International Cricket Council (ICC) finally announced the dates for the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. The prestigious tournament is set to start on June 4 with the final is scheduled for June 30 in the USA and West Indies.

As per a report by ESPNCricinfo, an ICC official team reached the USA to inspect the venues. The venues that can hold the World Cup matches can be in Lauderhill in Florida, Morrisville, Dallas, and New York.

In Florida, India will take on West Indies next week. The venues in Morrisville (Church Street Park) and Dallas (Grand Prairie Stadium) are also hosting the inaugural edition of the Major League Cricket (MLC).

It’s also worth noting that these two venues along with the Van Cortlandt Park in New York have not hosted any international matches. It’s mandatory for a venue to play host to international matches to host the World Cup matches as per the ICC rules.

What will be the format for the 2024 T20 World Cup?

The ESPNCricinfo report further stated that the format for the forthcoming 2024 T20 World Cup will be like the last edition’s tournament held in 2022 in Australia and 2021 in UAE. A total of 20 teams will participate in the tournament for the first round.

They will be divided into groups of five. The teams that will end up in the top two from each group will qualify for the Super 8s. In Super 8s, the eight teams will be divided into two groups, and the top two teams will qualify for the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, the teams that have already qualified for the T20 World Cup are Australia, England, India, Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, and Sri Lanka. The USA and West Indies have qualified as hosts of the World Cup, while Afghanistan and Bangladesh qualified due to their T20I rankings.

Papua New Guinea, Ireland, and Scotland have qualified via regional qualifiers held by the ICC. Another regional qualifier will decide the next teams.
