After a very dramatic week in Bangladesh, their cricket team has arrived in India for the start of the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup. After failing to reach the finals of the 2023 Asia Cup and losing the home ODI series to New Zealand, they aren’t in good form coming into the competition.
The Bangladesh Cricket Team made it’s first World Cup appearance 1999 and since then their best finish has been in the 2015 World Cup’s Quarter Finals. They finished in the super 8 of the 2007 World Cup as well.
Bangladesh will play their first match on 7th October against Afghanistan in the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamshala. The team is led by Shakib Al Hasan, who has announced he will be giving up the role after the World Cup.
Bangladesh’s schedule and squad for the World Cup
Sri Lanka will play in the cities of Delhi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Pune, Mumbai and Bengaluru. The Bengal Tigers will be playing without opener and ex-captain, Tamim Iqbal, who wasn’t selected due to injury concerns. Shakib Al Hasan is leading the side, although he has confirmed he didn’t want the role and will step down after the completion of the World Cup.
As Bangladesh have never reached the semi finals of the World Cup, Shakib and Co. will try to be a competitive side throughout the tournament. They have a competitive side, which boasts of stars like Mushfiqur Rahim, Litton Das, Mushfiqur Rahman and the World’s number 1 all rounder, Shakib Al Hasan.
