New Zealand have returned to India after barely 8 months to compete in the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup. The Kiwis had reached the finals of the tournament in the previous 2 editions of the competition and semi finals in 2007 and 2011.
The team has won 2 ICC competitions, the 2021 World Test Championship and the 2000 Champions Trophy. They come to India with the aim of winning the quadrennial tournament, especially after losing the finals twice in a row.
The Kiwis will play the first fixture of the tournament with the champions of the 2019 ICC ODI World Cup, England, in the Narendra Modi Stadium on 5th October. They will play all 9 teams in a round robin format tournament.
New Zealand’s schedule and squad for the World Cup
The Kiwis start their World Cup campaign for the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup on 5th October, as they face defending champions, England. They will play in the cities of Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Chennai, Dharamshala, Pune and Benguluru. They will play 9 matches in this World Cup and if they manage to finish in the Top 4, they will advance to the Semi Finals.

Captain Kane Williamson has been struggling with a knee injury he suffered during the opener of the 2023 IPL, where he didn’t land properly after leaping to stop a boundary. Since then he hasn’t featured for New Zealand in any formats, but managed to bat for 54 balls against Pakistan in their warm up fixture. He will miss the first match, but will make his official comeback against The Netherlands.
