South Africa team will be led by Temba Bavuma in the 2023 ODI World Cup in their quest to hold the coveted trophy for the first time. Though they were never crowned as world champions, they made it to the semi-finals on three occasions, in 1992, 1999, and 2011.

In the 2023 ODI World Cup, the Proteas will start their campaign with a match against Sri Lanka on Saturday (October 7) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. They will play a total of nine games in the league stage with their last match scheduled on November 10 against Afghanistan at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

South Africa was banned from World Cup participation until 1991. They finally began their campaign in 1992. Since 1992, they took part in seven more ODI World Cup tournaments but couldn’t make it to the finals. In the 2019 edition, they remained in the seventh position on the points table with just three wins from nine matches.

The ODI World Cup starts on Thursday (October 5) with a match between defending champions England and runners-up New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The final will be held in Ahmedabad on November 19. A total of 10 teams qualified for the World Cup and 48 matches will be played from October 5 to November 19.
