Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan is a cricket enthusiast and it’s not hidden from anyone. He follows cricket closely and owns franchises across the world, the most famous being the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He owns the other teams in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), UAE’s ILT20 League, as well as the recently launched USA’s Major League Cricket (MLC).
But as the cricket fraternity’s focus has shifted to the big forthcoming event in October-November, the social media handles of the International Cricket Council (ICC) shared a post on Wednesday, sending the netizens into a frenzy. In ICC’s post, Khan could be seen looking at the ODI World Cup with a subtle smile on his face.
The caption of the post read: “King Khan #CWC2023 Trophy It’s nearly here…“. The post did not take much time to go viral on the micro-blogging platform.

Meanwhile, the ODI World Cup will start on October 5th and the final will be played on November 19th. The last edition’s finalists, England and New Zealand, will kick start the World Cup at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad; while India will be playing their first match against Australia in Chennai. Both the highly anticipated and most hyped match of the tournament, India versus Pakistan, will be held on October 15th in Ahmedabad.
Rohit Sharma and Co. are expected to win the cup but they are not the heavy favorites because they have to tick several boxes ahead of the tournament. Post 2011, a pattern was seen in the World Cups as the hosts started winning the coveted trophy. India co-hosted the 2011 event with Sri Lanka and defeated them in the final.
Australia hosted in 2015 and won the cup by beating New Zealand. In 2019, England hosted the tournament and ended up winning it by beating the Black Caps. It will be interesting to see whether India continues the tradition which they started back in 2011 to lift the trophy at home.
