Following a series of controversial actions from Harmanpreet Kaur in the 3rd ODI between India-W and Bangladesh-W, the ICC has decided to impose a ban on the Indian Skipper. Kaur received major backlash for her behavior from fans as well as members of the cricket fraternity.

Initially, Harmanpreet Kaur had been awarded 3 demerit points for smashing the stumps with her bat after being given out, arguing with the Umpires on the field and later calling the umpiring ‘Pathetic’ during the post-match presentation, accusing them of being biased.

The ICC has decided to suspend the Indian Skipper for the next two international matches that the team will play. ICC’s official report states that Kaur has breached article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct -“showing dissent at an umpire’s decision.” She has also registered a level 1 offense regarding “public criticism in relation to an incident occurring in an international match”

No formal hearing was required in the process as Harmanpreet Kaur accepted the charges and admitted to committing the offenses named in the report. Akhtar Ahmad of the ICC International Panel of Match Referees had proposed the charges against her. The suspension was implemented with immediate effect.

“India women’s team skipper Harmanpreet Kaur has been suspended for the next two international matches following two separate breaches of the ICC Code of Conduct,” ICC announced on Tuesday.

Kaur has agreed to sit out of the next two international games that the Indian team will play. The suspension could play into the Asian Games as well for Kaur unless the BCCI hosts any international series before that.

“In Kaur’s instance, the accumulation of four demerit points converted to two suspension points, leading to her suspension from either one Test match or two ODIs or two T20Is, whichever comes first for the team,” ICC explained.
