“I’m 35 not 75”- Sheldon Jackson is angry after not being picked in India A, Duleep Trophy squads
Sheldon Jackson
Sheldon Jackson scored almost 2000 rus in the last three Ranji Trophy seasons but still, he couldn’t make it to the India ‘A’ squad for the upcoming four-day matches against New Zealand ‘A’ at home. When he asked around about the same, he was told he was old to be picked for the zonal side as the Saurashtra cricketer wasn’t even picked up in the West Zone squad for the Duleep Trophy.
The All-India Senior Selection Committee on Wednesday named India ‘A’ squad that includes top performers in India’s domestic matches including the likes of Rahul Chahar, Kuldeep Yadav, Prasidh Krishna, Priyank Panchal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sarfaraz Khan, among others. But Jackson failed to make it to the squad despite performing and he was dissapointed.
He took to Twitter and wrote: “I have a right to believe and dream that if I have performed for 3 continuous season, i may get picked on the basis of my performances not age, tired of hearing this that im a good player and performer but im old, im 35 not 75.”

“I think it’s just become a ploy to not pick someone”- Sheldon Jackson
Sheldon Jackson then spoke about how he was tagged as old but six players who are above 30 have been picked up for the squads. He was baffled that if a performer is getting picked in his mid-30s for the country, why it isn’t the case in domestic cricket.
“Now when I am 35, I am being tagged as old but I have been hearing this since I was 31. Now they have picked more that six who are older than 30, so how is it justified then? Back then I was told no one above 30 was picked. But when a performer is picked for the country in his mid-30s based on his performance, why isn’t it adopted for domestic cricket? I think it’s just become a ploy to not pick someone. When you don’t really have other reason, you cite his age,” Jackson told SportsStar.
