Recently in an interview, he admitted that sometimes he even felt like approaching his uncle to open up about how he felt.
Imam-ul-Haq and Inzamam-ul-Haq
Pakistan opener Imam-ul-Haq has produced a consistent performance for his side in Test cricket over the years. But it wasn’t easier for him when he started his career in international cricket because of the very fact that he is the nephew of Pakistan’s legendary captain Inzamam-ul-Haq.
Many considered that Imam handled the pressure well when he was constantly compared with Inzamam. But the 27-year-old opener hasn’t opened up about his struggles on how he handled the pressure of expectations. But recently, in an interview, he admitted that sometimes he even felt like approaching his uncle to open up about how he felt.
“If I’m being honest, I felt I should tell chachu (Inzamam), ‘what was my mistake?’,” Imam said in an interview with Sports Central. “But some things come unwanted in your life. People say that I handled it well, but actually, I didn’t. I just went with the flow because I had o other option. I came after a long process as well; I played two U19 World Cups, played in 45 first-class matches, and had an average of 50 in the Qaid-e-Azam trophy when I was first picked in the team,” he added.

Imam-ul-Haq thanked Babar Azam for his constant support
Imam-ul-Haq then revealed how Pakistan skipper Babar Azam constantly supported him when the former started his international career. “He played a very big role in supporting me. We played a lot of cricket together. And it was vice-versa, if he had doubts, we used to discuss them as well,” Imam added.
Imam is currently with Pakistan’s Test team for the two-match series against New Zealand. In the first Test, he scored 24 in the first innings and 96 in the second innings.
Overall, he has played 19 Test matches, amassing 1322 runs. In 54 ODIs, he accumulated 2528 runs, while in two T20Is, he scored 21 runs.
