Imam-ul-Haq, the opening batsman for Pakistan, has courageously revealed his emotional journey in the midst of constant accusations of nepotism that tormented his early international cricket career. The 27-year-old cricketer, who made his professional debut against Sri Lanka in 2017, disclosed the psychological toll that these insults took on him.

Imam-ul-Haq, whose uncle is the famous Inzamam-ul-Haq, was accused of preference on account of familial ties within the selection committee. Even during family dinners, he recalled being called “parchi,” a term suggesting nepotism, which deeply impacted him and his parents.

“My parents want to observe me perform, but they have never seen me perform live. Even I do not want it to occur. When I am fielding on the boundary, I don’t want my mother to hear someone exclaim parchi. All of this is routine for me. When I am dismissed inexpensively, they do not consider my past accomplishments but instead utter parchi. I do not want my family to be exposed to that,” Imam said, emphasizing the heartbreaking impact it would have on his family. Not until 2022 did his sister have the opportunity to witness him play, disclosing the cricketer’s prolonged suffering.
