India went into the 2nd Test with the goal to draw the series and gain important WTC Points. They lost the first Test by an innings and 32 runs. This time India were victorious, as they won the 2nd Test at Newlands Cricket Stadium, becoming the first Asian nation to win in Cape Town.
South Africa elected to bowl first, but were dismissed in 23 overs for only 55 runs thanks to a 6-wicket-haul by Mohammed Siraj. On the same day, India were bowled out for 153, getting a lead of just 98 runs. They lost their last 6 wickets without scoring a single run in a span of just 11 balls.
South Africa’s second innings began on day one, batting 17 overs and scoring 62 runs. They did lose 3 wickets. In the morning session of the 2nd day, the hosts lost their last 7 wickets. An impressive century by Aiden Markram ensured South Africa could get a lead, but it was not enough. Jasprit Bumrah’s 6-wicket haul ensured the hosts got a lead of only 78. Setting up a target of just 79, India chased it down in 12 overs. The match lasted a total of 642 balls.

Throughout the game wickets were tumbling like dominoes, with each batter unable to read the dangerous pitch. Many congratulated India for the win and bowling performance. Although some Indian fans were happy with the win, they were not happy at how fast the Test match finished.

With this match, it marks the end of Dean Elgar’s Test career. The opener debuted in 2012 and played 86 Tests, scoring 5,347 runs. India’s next Test series is at home, where they face England in 5 Test matches.
