“India have 30% chance of making it to top 4 of T20 World Cup”- Kapil Dev explains why he is concerned about India
Kapil Dev explains why he is concerned about India
ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 is underway, and India still have a few days left to start their campaign; Rohit Sharma’s men will play against Pakistan on October 23. Amidst all the excitement of the World Cup, the legendary Kapil Dev feels the Indian team has a small chance to make it to the semifinals.
He observed that India needs more all-rounders apart from Hardik Pandya. A captain has the liberty to use the all-rounders as the sixth bowler and an all-rounder can do every department’s work that’s wanted on the field.
“What more do you want in the side other than having all-rounders who could win matches for a side not only in the World Cup but in all other matches or events? A cricketer like Hardik Pandya has been quite useful for India,” Kapil Dev said on Tuesday at the sidelines of a promotional event in Lucknow.
Kapil Dev heaps praise on Suryakumar Yadav
Kapil Dev then explained how uncertain T20 cricket is; he didn’t feel confident about India reaching the semifinal stage.
“In T20 cricket, the team winning a match can lose the next… It’s a very difficult to talk about the chances of India winning the World Cup. The issue is can they make it to the top four? And I am concerned about their making it to the top four, only then anything can be said. For me, it’s just 30 % chance of India making it to the top (last) four.”
The 63-year-old then praised Suryakumar Yadav who is in fine form. “In fact, no one ever thought about Yadav being an impact player in the future, but he did great with his batting and forced the world to talk about him. Now, we can’t think about India without him,” the former World Cup winning captain said.
He then added how cricket is like acting, singing, painting, etc., and that a cricketer should enjoy the sport rather than feel pressured now and then.
“When a kid is born, he gets to play bat and ball, football or a tennis ball, you don’t give him a pencil or a pen. So take sports as fun, not as pressure,” Kapil Dev said further.
