The final between India and Australia on 11th June 2023, at The Oval, marked the end of the 2021-23 cycle of the World Test Championship (WTC), with Australia emerging as champions. The next cycle of the WTC is set to begin on Friday (16 June) with arch-rivals England and Australia competing in the Ashes. The high-intensity five-test series will be the perfect way to kickstart the 2023-25 cycle.
Ahead of the Ashes series, England’s captain Ben Stokes said, “We are looking forward to the new cycle of the World Test Championship, and hope we get off to a good start.”
This cycle will include 68 matches to be played across 27 series, with the final to be played in 2025 at Lord’s, similar to the final of 2021. The edition is set to feature nine teams – India, Australia, England, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and West Indies.

India are set to play 19 Test matches in this new WTC cycle, including 10 home and 9 away matches. They will face New Zealand, England and Bangladesh at home while they will play Australia, West Indies and South Africa in away conditions.

Good news for Indian Test enthusiasts, this time the Border-Gavaskar Trophy is set to be played across a five-match series for the first time since 1992.
Each win in the WTC holds 12 points, a drawn match gives each team 4 points and 6 each in case of a tie. The final will be played between the two teams at the top of the points table, at Lord’s.
