The wait is over for Sarfaraz Khan, for he has finally earned a Test call up. The KL Rahul void was the reason behind the youngster earning his maiden call. Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja have been ruled out of the second Test against India scheduled on February 2 in Vizag.
On the eve of his potential Test debut, Sarfaraz revealed he tries to follow those cricketers who have succeeded a lot in their careers. He also revealed that his father, Naushad Ahmed, thinks he plays like Pakistan’s legendary batter Javed Miandad.
I like to watch Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, Sir Vivian Richards, and even Javed Miandad because my dad has told me that I play like him.Sarfaraz told JioCinema
I watch Joe Root's batting also. For anyone who is succeeding, I am watching them to see how they are doing it, so I can learn and apply it. I want to continue doing this, whether it's in the Ranji Trophy or playing for India in the future. He added
Sarfaraz Khan says dad always stood by him
Because of his average in domestic cricket, Sarfaraz Khan is called the ‘Don Bradman’ of Indian cricket by the fans. During the Ranji season in 2022, Sarfaraz became the first Indian batter to score more than 900 runs in two successive Ranji seasons. And in just 25 matches, he averaged 82.83, the highest one, after Sir Don Bradman in first-class cricket.
But the road to the maiden call-up was not easy for the batter. According to reports, fitness, and behavioral issues were the reasons why he was ignored by the selectors.
It was disheartening for Sarfaraz to see others succeed while he stayed behind despite his brilliant numbers in domestic matches. But one thing that did not change for him was his dad’s support, who worked very hard to help his son in every way possible.
After his son got the call-up, Naushad Ahmed thanked the Mumbai Cricket Association, the National Cricket Academy, the Board of Control for Cricket in India the selectors, and the fans for trusting the youngster. Whenever Sarfaraz did not get the chance to fill a spot in the squad, fans on social media used to criticize the selectors for not giving the chance to a young talent. But now, Sarfaraz will be in the spotlight if he does get the opportunity to bat.
